The Japan Government decided to ease immigration process of returning foreign students. The restrictions might change to simplify entry restrictions by the end of the month along with the plan on fully lifting its re-entry ban for foreign residents sometime next month.
The easing of restrictions will be first imposed for foreign students sponsored by the Japan Government then expeted to be expanded for self-supporting international students. All foreign nationals will be required to take and present their PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test to show that they are not infected with the virus when entering Japan. Along with this, they are also required to take 14days self-isolation to monitor their health.
The rule imposed by the government deciding to ban 146 countries including those who are residents with proper visa requirements took criticisms specially from the expat community. Most foreign residents usually re-enter Japan during spring and fall when the school begins. But with the banned imposed last early April in response with the pandemic, many could not enter the country.
Along with the easing of restrictions to foreign students, Japan decided to also include business travelers from 16 countries including Thailand and Vietnam to enter the country under certain conditions.
