With 18, 000 fireworks launched to illuminate the Chikugo River (Shinoyama area and Kyoumachi area) and the sky, Chikugogawa Fireworks Festival is now the largest and best known fireworks display in Western Japan. It is 360-year-old fireworks festival making it one of the oldest in Japan. Annually, there are over 450,ooo people who visit this event. It is originally dedicated to Kurume Suitengu Shrine.
