Nara Tokae Festival is a 10-days event held every summer. It started in 1999. For 10 days, the Nara will be light by candles with different shaped-candles like flowers, deers, rivers and hearts. Toka is a type of Japanese flower-shaped candle and it is a sign of good luck. The more flowerlike the shape the luckier it is for the person who lit the lantern. If you want to light your own lantern, you may do so for a donation of ¥500 in Nara Park.
