Shoro Nagashi Lantern Floating Ceremony is a religious festival celebrated every August 15 of every year, in the city center of Nagasaki prefecture. The festival is described as loud with firecrackers and gongs, also a solemn and joyous festival.
The festival is celebrated by each family who have lost their loved ones since the last O-Bon. Families and friends build shorobune boats while neighborhood associations and groups, build moyaibune boats, of bamboo, grass and wood.
The decoration of the boat reflects the hobbies of the deceased, these boats are paraded through the Nagasaki streets before being destroyed at the end of the parade in Nagashiba.
