Tokushima Awa Odori is one of Japan’s most famous summer festival and attracts 1.3 million visitors, the event takes place at Tokushima prefecture in Shikoku. The word “odori” means dance while “Awa” is the pre-Meiji name of the Tokushima city area.
The streets of Tokushima city are closed to traffic each evening for the festival. The dancing takes place ont eh streets that can be viewed for free and at seven stages with reserved seating. The tickets for reserved seating ranges from 800 – 2,000 yen and can be purchased in advanced at the information center in front of Tokushima Station at the local conveneince store.
