With a 300-year history, Katsuyama Sagicho Matsuri is a festival marking the coming of Spring Season to Katsuyama in the Fukui Prefecture which is held on the last Saturday and Sunday of February. It is to pray for a good harvest of the year. Locals perform arts to the tune of Japanese music and drumming while they are being carried around Katsuyama City on a dozen of Yagura or the wooden high stages. The Dondo-yaki ceremony is held on the river banks of the Kayurzu River where New Year’s ornament and decoration are set to fire.
