The biggest lantern festival in Japan is the Nagasaki Lantern Festival which is held in Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture every year. It is a 15 days celebration of the first 15 days Chinese New Year featuring more that 15,000 lanterns and lights which brighten up the city. This event is orginally started in Chinatown of Nagasaki (one of the biggest Chinatowns in Japan along with Yokohama and Kobe) by the Chinese Residents. In 1994, it became an official annual event in the city.
