This festival takes place at Shitennoji Temple in Osaka City along with the “Kuroishi Naked Festival (Sumin Festival)” and “Saidaiji Aiyo” (Nude Festival / 3rd Saturday in February) at Kuroishi Temple in Iwate Prefecture every January, which is considered the coldest month of the year. More than 600 men participate, wearing red or white Fundoshi. The name of the festival, Doya Doya, comes from the noise that people make when they get into the Rokuji hall or even faces provoking other participants. They shout doya-doya as they are soaked and the atmosphere is very energetic with a highly competitive edge.
