Hakata Dontaku (博多どんたく) is held every May 3 and 4 of every year during the busy holiday period of Golden Week. The Dontaku festival has been celebrated for more than 800 years. Over the two days celebration of dances and processions, an estimated of over 2 million people cheer on the participants.
Dontaku Hiroba includes Meiji-dori Ave. from Gofukumachi Intersection to Fukuoka City Hall. The main parade passage from the starting point, Gofukumachi Intersection, to the end point, Fukuoka City Hall, is 30 minutes long. See the map and schedule below for program details.
