The Jidai Matsuri or “Festival of Ages” is held every October 22 of each year which is the anniversary of the foundation of Kyoto. It is one of the biggest October festival that you can go and see. It features a large parade from Imperial Palace to Heian Shrine. About 2000 participants are dressed in costumes from every period of Japanese history and historical figures.
This year, 2021, due to the enthronement ceremony of the new Emperor which is on October 22, the Jidai Matsuri was moved and will be held on October 26, 2021, Saturday.
