Held before the “Sports Day” holiday in Japan, Otsu Hikiyama festival is one of Shiga’s largest festivals. The festival is celebrated by parading 13 stunning Mikoshi floates around the city. The celebration centers on the area around Tenson-Jija shrine near Otsu Station.
The Otsu Hikiyama festival is one of Lake Biwa’s three great events, which originated during the Edo period to celebrate the prosperity of the city.
