Takayama Festival is considered as one of the most Japan’s three most beautiful festivals alongside Kyoto’s Gion Matsuri and the Chichibu Yomatsuri. This festival is held twice a year in spring and autumn in the old town of Takayama that attracts large numbers of spectators. This is to celebrate a good harvest in autumn. The festival parade is held in the Shimomachi area, on the north side of Yasugawa Street.
Takayama Festival is celebrated with a line of several hundreds of people dressed in traditional costumes such as kamishimo (samurai costume) walk around the festival area with a portable shrine which carries the deity.
