According to IOC Vice President John Coates last Monday (Sept. 7), the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympics will have to push through next year with or without the Corona virus pandemic with a vow statement of “games that conquered COVID”.

The 2020 Olympic was postponed last March because of the Corona virus pandemic.

“It will take place with or without COVID,” said Coates, who heads the IOC’s Coordination Commission for the Tokyo Games. “The games will start on July 23 next year. “The games were going to be, their theme, the Reconstruction Games after the devastation of the tsunami,” he added. “Now very much these will be the games that conquered COVID, the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Officials from the Japanese government clearly stated that this coming scheduled Olympic Games will not be delayed compared to its original schedule.

Japan government has already put billions of dollars into the Olympics, with the delay only adding to the cost.
